The Alfa Laval DS 20 Salinometer (Revision 2) is a salinity monitoring instrument used in fresh water generators and boiler feed water treatment systems on commercial vessels. The Alfa Laval DS 20 Salinometer continuously measures salt concentration of distilled water — automatically diverting water overboard if salinity exceeds safe limits, protecting boilers and fresh water systems from salt contamination.
The Alfa Laval DS 20 Salinometer uses a conductivity measurement principle — pure distilled water has low electrical conductivity, which rises as salt content increases. When conductivity exceeds the set salinity limit, the DS 20 outputs an alarm and activates the divert valve to send contaminated water overboard rather than to the fresh water tanks or boiler.
